My friends and I have a habit of arriving late to happy hour, a.k.a. missing the happy hour. Most HH deals across the city end at 6:30 or 7pm, so by the time everyone leaves work, gets on the subway, and gets settled, there is little time to spare.

In the past few years, I’ve discovered a few places that keep happy hour going until 8pm. They’re not the best bars in NYC, but it’s nice to meet up with friends and save a few dollars on the drinks we were going to buy anyway. Here are the places I recommend going when you want to meet up with friends or catch up with co-workers after work without spending a fortune.

Joe Doe Bar & Kitchen  (NoMad / Flatiron Area)

John Doe is half sports bar, half gastro pub. It’s usually pretty low key and a good place for catching up one on one.

It’s also perfect if you want to grab a bite to eat because they have happy hour deals for food too!

The HH deal:

$5 Select Craft Beers, $4 Select Pints, $5 Heineken, $6 House White & Red Wine, $6 Well Liquor/Well Mixed Drinks, $8 Featured Cocktails, $5 Domestic Beer Bottles. Food deals change each day.

Reunion Surf Bar (Hells’ Kitchen / Time Square Area)

If you are unfortunate enough to work near Times Square, this is the place to go.
It’s a super cute surfer-theme place randomly tucked away in a basement. I used to go here when I got my first real job as an Assistant Account Executive at a PR Firm – me and all the other assistants would go there and complain about how rough we had it (lol).

The HH deal:
$3 pilsner, $3 acid drop shots, $6 acid drop cocktails (Grapefruit), and $6 “palomas” (tequila lime)

The Folly (SoHo)

This place is so cozy and cute and is decorated like a pirate ship. You would think that would be cheesy, but they do it well!

The only downside is that it’s in SoHo, so depending on where you work, there might be travel involved. There are also plenty of other fun places in SoHo so you might be like “why did you bring me here?” but  I promise you will like it!

The HH deal:
$6 wine, draft, and “frozen grogs”

Gonzalez y Gonzalez (SoHo)

I spent my 26th birthday at this restaurant/bar which is so fun, so cheap, and conveniently located in SoHo. I wouldn’t venture out of my way to go here, but if you’re shopping on Broadway after work, this is an easy spot to pop in and grab a drink and appetizer at the bar. You can usually get a seat unless it’s Thursday, which is “salsa night.”

The HH deal:

$6 margaritas (frozen and on the rocks) & Sangria

******Honorable mention*****

The Storehouse(Flatiron)

I originally planned to include this bar on the list, but when I went to their website to make sure I could share all of the deals correctly, I learned that their<strong> happy hour ends at 7!

I always get a glass of wine when I go which is only $6 so I assumed it was on happy hour. It turns out that wine is $5 before 7, not bad! $6 is still pretty good, so I decided to keep this on the list.
This Irish pub is right by the busy intersection on 23rd and 6th, but the inside is comfortable and welcoming.
