When it’s bitter cold outside, it can be hard to find the motivation to not head straight home to your couch after work, or to avoid leaving your bed on the weekends. Believe it or not, I actually don’t mind the winter weather in New York City! I love the feeling of a brisk walk, to end up somewhere warm and cozy where I can take my jacket off and relax. Here are a few of my favorite cozy winter bars in New York City (Manhattan and Brooklyn).

The Marlton (West Village)

I don’t usually go to hotel bars, but The Marlton is a classic. It came to mind when I thought of the word “cozy” because there is a fireplace and big comfy seats! The cocktails are good, and the big couch-like seats are so comfortable. If you’re in the Washington Square Park area, definitely check it out.

Soccer Tavern (Sunset Park, Brooklyn)

Soccer Tavern is a hidden gem on 8th Avenue’s Chinatown.  Grab some dim sum nearby, and head to Soccer Tavern for $5 on-tap beers and friendly bartenders. The intimate bar used to be a speakeasy, so it as an intimate vibe.

The Folly (Soho)

I included this bar/restaurant in my NYC happy hour post too! It feels like your inside of a ship, but it has a comfortable, homey feel. The specials are great and I usually get a seat when I go there.

Union Hall (Park Slope, Brooklyn)

Union Hall is a special place. The whole bar looks like a library, and they even have an indoor bocce court! There’s a live music venue downstairs too, though I’ve never ventured down there. I prefer the large couches near the front, where you can sit comfortably and have a conversation without screaming at the top of your lungs. On top of that, the prices aren’t so bad. It can get annoyingly crowded on the weekends, but if you get there at the right time you can grab a seat for the night.
